But like any high-performance piece of commercial equipment, daily wear and tear can occasionally lead to operational hiccups. When your i-mop stops putting out water, leaves streaks, or won’t power on, downtime costs you money.

1. Power & Battery Issues (Won't Turn On or Charge)

If your i-mop is completely unresponsive or won't hold a charge, check these common culprits before panic sets in.

Machine Won’t Turn On:

  • The Deck Position: Unlike traditional walk-behind scrubbers, the i-mop features an automatic power cutoff when stored upright to prevent battery drain. The Fix: Lower the scrub deck to the floor to engage the power.

  • Handle Operating Angle: The handle must be tilted back past a 32-degree operating angle for the motors to engage. If it still doesn't register, you can manually reset the handle tilt sensor by holding down the Eco (Water Savings) button for 5 seconds.

  • Battery Seating: If the batteries are unevenly installed, the circuit won't complete. Slide both battery packs out, check the connection terminals for debris, and firmly slide them back in until they click.

Charger & Battery Dock Issues:

  • The 10-Second Rule: The high-speed i-charge® 9 docking station needs a moment to reset its internal memory. Always wait 10 seconds between removing one battery pack and inserting the next.

  • Over-charging Prevention: To protect your investment and preserve overall battery lifespan, never leave i-power batteries permanently sitting on an active charger once fully charged.

2. Water Delivery Issues (Not Putting Out Water)

If you’re running the machine but the floor stays bone dry, your solution delivery system is blocked or restricted.

  • Check the Control Knob: Ensure you have selected an operating mode that actually utilizes water (Mode 1 for standard scrub/vacuum or Mode 4 for heavy scrubbing without vacuum).

  • The Solution Tank Valve: The i-mop tank uses a specialized gravity valve. When placing the tank onto the machine, make sure it is pushed firmly downward onto the receiving nipple to break the valve seal.

  • Clogged Particle Filter: Located directly under the clean water solution tank is a small mesh filter. If you use hard water or heavy chemical concentrates, this filter will eventually clog. Unscrew the housing counter-clockwise, pull out the mesh screen, and rinse it under warm running water.

  • Pinch Points & Eco Potentiometers: Check the clean water lines running along the scrub deck to ensure they aren't pinched by the motor housing. If water flow is still too low, technicians can pop off the rubber cap on the main control unit to adjust the internal potentiometer dial with a flathead screwdriver to increase flow limits.

3. Suction & Recovery Issues (Leaving Water or Streaking)

The i-mop is celebrated for leaving floors dry almost instantly, reducing slip-and-fall risks. If it's leaving water behind or creating dirty streaks, it's time to check the vacuum loop.

  • Empty the Recovery Tank: When the wastewater tank hits capacity, an internal safety ball-float rises to seal off the vacuum motor. Empty the tank, pull out the float cage, and clear away any accumulated slime or foam.

  • Check the Tank Seals: The i-mop relies on a perfect vacuum seal. Inspect the rubber gasket on the underside of the recovery tank lid. If it is warped, cracked, or misaligned, the machine will lose suction.

  • Inspect the Vacuum Hose: A standard maintenance step is twisting the squeegee vacuum hose connector turn to verify a tight fit. Inspect the length of the hose for punctures, tears, or internal debris blockages.

4. Squeegee Maintenance & Flipping

Your squeegee blades take the brunt of floor friction. If the squeegee assembly is damaged or dirty, your floor will have streaks.

  • Daily Cleaning: Clean the squeegee assembly wheels and wipe down the rubber blades at the end of every shift.

  • Flip the Blades to Double Their Lifespan: Don't throw away a squeegee blade just because it's worn! The standard Linatex and Urethane blades on the i-mop XL and XXL are designed to be flipped. Unscrew the 8 plastic thumbscrews on the back of the squeegee frame, flip the rubber blade upside down so a fresh, sharp edge faces the floor, and re-tighten. (Note: Special structured squeegees with molded arrow patterns cannot be flipped and must be fully replaced).

5. Brush & Brush Motor Troubleshooting

Counter-rotating twin brushes are the heart of the i-mop's cleaning deck. If they stop spinning, the machine cannot clean.

  • The 9.5-Minute Stationary Safeguard: To protect your floors from burn marks and the motors from overheating, the i-mop has a built-in safety timer. If the machine sits stationary with the deck down for more than 9.5 minutes, the brush motors automatically cut off and the control panel display lights will flash. Simply turn the machine off, lift the deck, and restart it to clear the code.

  • Debris & Overload Triggers: Strings, hair, and carpet edges love to wrap around brush shafts. Stand the i-mop securely in its storage position, remove the batteries for safety, pop the brushes off, and clear out any tangled debris around the drive hubs.

6. Pro-Tip: The Master Reset Option

Sometimes, an unexpected electrical glitch or electrostatic buildup can cause the control panel lights to flash randomly or lock up the machine's functions. Before replacing expensive parts, technicians should perform a Master Power Reset:

  1. Switch the main control dial back to the OFF position.

  2. Completely remove both i-power battery packs from the chassis.

  3. Press and hold down the 'Water Save' (Eco) button for exactly 30 seconds to completely drain all residual power from the internal capacitors.

  4. Release the button, slide the batteries back in, lower the deck, and try operating the machine again.
