Part 2: ProTeam Charger Diagnostics

The charger continuously communicates with the battery’s BMS. The LED indicators on the charger base dictate the current electrical status of the connection.

  • Solid Red (Standby): The charger is receiving power from the wall outlet. When a battery is initially inserted, the LED will remain Solid Red for approximately 4 seconds while it reads the battery's internal computer before switching modes.

  • Flashing Green (Charging): Normal operation. The battery is actively receiving a charge.

  • Solid Green (Complete): The battery is 100% charged and ready for use.

  • Flashing Amber/Yellow (Temperature Fault): The battery is too hot or too cold to safely accept a charge. Remove the battery and allow it to sit at room temperature for at least one hour. Once the internal temperature stabilizes, reinsert the battery; it should switch to Flashing Green.

  • Flashing Red (Error/Fault): The universal error code. The charger is communicating with the battery, but the battery's BMS is reporting a critical failure, or the charger cannot establish a safe connection. Ensure the cord is intact and the outlet has power. Ensure the battery is fully seated. If the flashing red light persists, perform the "5-10 Second Test" on the battery.

Part 3: Standard Troubleshooting Walkthrough

When an operator reports a charging failure, proceed through these steps to isolate the failed component:

  1. Verify the Power Source: Ensure the charger is plugged into a known-working outlet with a good power cord.

  2. Seat the Battery: Firmly insert the battery pack into the charger base.

  3. Observe the 4-Second Window: The charger LED must illuminate Solid Red for ~4 seconds BEFORE entering charging mode. This is the handshake phase. (If no light appears: The charger unit or power cord has failed.)

  4. Observe the Mode Shift:

    • Shifts to Flashing Green: Normal operation.

    • Shifts to Flashing Red: The charger is actively rejecting the charge due to a fault. Proceed to Step 5.

  5. Run the BMS Test: Remove the battery from the charger. Press and hold the fuel gauge for 5–10 seconds.

    • If 1 LED Shows: It is a battery fault. The charger is functioning correctly by refusing to charge a damaged battery. Issue a battery replacement.

    • If Normal LEDs Show: Allow the battery to rest for 5 minutes, ensure the terminal contacts on both the battery and charger are clean, and try reseating the battery into the charger again.
