If your Clarke Ultra Speed Pro 1500 floor burnisher runs fine initially but starts tripping the breaker during extended commercial jobs, you are dealing with a thermal overload or over-current issue. As internal and mechanical components heat up under sustained load, electrical resistance spikes, causing safety mechanisms to step in.
Here is a step-by-step troubleshooting guide to help you identify the root cause and restore reliable performance.
Excess friction forces the motor to work harder, drawing higher current and generating excessive heat during long runs.
Inspect the Pad Holder & Pad: Ensure the pad holder VF99024D and your approved burnishing pad are spinning freely without rubbing against the machine frame or skirt.
Check the Belt & Pulleys: Examine the Vee Belt VF14079B and pulleys VF52009Gand VF52004Ato verify proper alignment and tension. An overly tight or slipping belt creates unnecessary load.
Examine Shaft Bearings: Check the driven shaft bearingsVF14075to see if they are binding or seizing up once the machine reaches operating temperature.
High-speed floor burnishers naturally pull in a large amount of dust during operation. If that dust builds up inside, the motor cannot vent heat properly.
Clear Ventilation: Remove the motor cover and thoroughly blow out the motor using compressed air to clear away accumulated dust and ensure proper airflow.
External power delivery issues are a frequent culprit behind thermal tripping.
Eliminate Extension Cords: Per the manufacturer's manual guidelines, never use an extension cord with the standard power cord. Voltage drop over an extension cord forces the motor to draw higher amperage, causing rapid overheating.
Verify Circuit Capacity: Ensure the machine is plugged into a dedicated, properly rated 120V, 60Hz wall circuit (typically 15A or 20A) that isn't simultaneously powering other heavy equipment.
If mechanical checks and power supplies check out, the issue usually points to an electrical component failing under thermal stress:
Rectifier VF44204for Motor ZD41000G: While a completely shorted rectifier causes an instant trip on startup, a failing rectifier breaking down under continuous heat can leak excessive current or cause phase/rectification imbalances after 10 to 15 minutes of run time, triggering the breaker.
Onboard Circuit Breaker (17 Amps) VF99010C: Over time, repeated thermal cycles can weaken the internal bimetallic strip inside the machine's 17-amp circuit breaker, making it overly sensitive and prone to tripping prematurely.
Carbon Brushes VF99926-2 for Motor ZD41000G: On machines that have been in service for a few years, worn carbon brushes can cause poor electrical contact, severe arcing, and elevated internal motor temperatures during long runs.
Motor Assembly ZD41000G: If the motor has endured severe overheating in the past, the winding insulation may have degraded, leading to internal shorts once the unit reaches operating temperature.
